Matthias Raynal is a correspondent in Guinea when, on 28 September 2022, a trial opens for mass crimes, the first in the country's history. 13 years earlier, on the same date, more than 150 people were massacred by the security forces at an opposition rally in Conakry stadium. Based in the Guinean capital since 2021, where he works in particular with RFI and TV5 Monde, Matthias Raynal devotes a large part of his work to this trial. Before coming to Guinea, he was a correspondent in Tunisia and Morocco.

At the court in Conakry (which is judging those responsible for the massacre at the September 28, 2009 stadium in Guinea), defendants face the judge and president Ibrahima Sory II Tounkara. The latter is seated on a podium with the colors of the Guinean flag.

In Guinea, ethnicity has been mentioned several times during the hearings of defendants in the September 28, 2009 massacre trial. References to the parties’ ethnic groups have even provoked some incidents.
