UNITAD’s unfulfilled goals for ISIS accountability in Iraq
On 17 September 2024, UNITAD, the United Nations Investigative team to promote accountability for crimes committed by Daesh/ISIS, concluded its mandate after seven years. Human rights activist and jurist Hawre Ahmed says the UN body, initially led by Karim Khan, failed in fulfilling its goals, leaving the country with “zero legacy”.
