The mechanism covers some 4, 792 people representative of the Burundian population, which counts more than eight million people, according Mrs. Françoise Ngendahayo, representing the government within the tripartite steering committee.
These consultations, she said would be organized in the form of individual talks, focal groups, and community meetings. They will also be the subject of radio and television broadcasts. Some 782 people will be consulted individually, 1428 in groups, 2482 during community meetings and 100 via radio and television. The exercise is expected to cost One million American dollars (a billion Burundian francs), already financed by the fund for peace consolidation in Burundi.
The consultations, according to Ngendahayo, aims at involving the Burundian population in the national reconciliation process in Burundi by collecting their views on the methods of the creation of the mechanisms of transitional justice.
