08.09.09 - RWANDA/BELGIUM - BELGIAN CHIEF OF DEFENCE PAYS HOMAGE TO 10 SOLDIERS KILLED IN RWANDA

Arusha, 8 September 2009 (FH) - The belgian Chief of Defence, General Charles-Henri Delcour, who is visiting Rwanda, Monday paid a tribute to the ten Belgian paratroopers who were killed on 7 April 1994, reports Hirondelle Agency.   

The soldiers served the Belgian battalion under the command of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR). General Delcour visited the memorial site of the killings at the Kigali Camp.

General Delcour has underlined his country's determination to seek and bring to justice alleged authors of the genocide, according to Rwanda Radio.

Belgium has already tried and convicted several Rwandans accused of 1994 genocide which , according to the UN estimates, claimed lives of  nearly 800 000 people, primarily ethnic Tutsis.
