13.06.12 - ICC/GBAGBO– CONFIRMATION OF CHARGES HEARINGS POSTPONED TO AUGUST 13

The Hague, June 13, 2012 (FH) – Judges of the International Criminal Court announced Wednesday that confirmation of charges hearings in Laurent Gbagbo’s case were postponed to August 13 “to preserve the rights of the defence in fair proceedings”.

Hearings were scheduled to start on June 18. However, defence lawyers had requested a delay, arguing that they had to deal with insufficient means to prepare the hearings.

According to the judges, the defence team was recently granted “additional resources”, thus needed time to use it.

Laurent Gbago was arrested on April 11, 2011 and transferred to the court on November 30, 2011. He is charged with crimes against humanity.
