The Hague, September 7, 2012 (FH) - Office for Public counsel of the Defence (OPCD) on Thursday requested judges to refer Libya’s lack of cooperation with the International Criminal Court (ICC) to the UN Security Council.

In his motion, OPCD chief Xavier-Jean Keita notes that the ICC issued an arrest warrant for crimes against humanity against Abdullah Al-Senoussi on June, 27, 2011.

Al-Senoussi was arrested in Nouakchott in March 2012. On September 5, Mauritanian authorities extradited him to Libya. “The fact that Libya has secured Mr Al-Senussi’s transfer from Mauritania does not legitimize their right to try him: a defendant’s rights should not be sold to the highest bidder”, Xavier-Jean Keita argues.

ICC has not issued yet an official statement regarding Senoussi's extradition.
